He was 43. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 8 at 10 am at Crossroads Community church. Pastor Bill Corley will officiate. Mr. Fortney was born July 2, 1961 in Lancaster. He was a 1979 Burroughs High School Graduate and a journeyman welder. He worked as head of track operations for the Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake. He received numerous award during his civil service career. One award was from the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators. (IABTI) He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and fastpitch softball. The family requests donations in his memory be made to a trust fund for the children at AltaOne Federal Credit Union, 701 S. China Lake Blvd., Ridgecrest Ca 93555. He is survived by two daughters Rachel Fortney and Hannah Forney of Ridgecrest, his first wife of 11 years Michele Fortney of Ridgecrest, companion Tammy Mather of Ridgecrest, her two daughters Brady Mather and Ensley Mather of Ridgecrest, father and step-mother Thomas and Eva Fortney of Ridgecrest, mother and step-father Linda and James Harinek of Ridgecrest, father-in-law and mother-in-law Max and Joan Sahl of Boynton Beach, Fla., grandmother Charlsie (Nanny) Brinley of Palmdale, sister and brother-in-law Kathryn and Ed Ballinger of Denver, Colo., brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Netta Fortney of Memphis, Tenn., brother and sister-in-law Robert and Jennifer Fortney of Las Vegas, Nev., brother Daniel Fortney and sister-in-law Christiana Fortney of Ridgecrest, brother-in-law Mike Spittstoesser and sister-in-law Lisa Splittstoesser of Ridgecrest, brother-in-law Mark Sahl of Philadelphia, Pa., step-sisters Brandy Martinez of Denver, Colo., Michelle Arrendondo of Ridgecrest! , Denise Martin of Hampton, Va. and Stephanie MaCaughan of Bakersfield, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
