Brooks, an employee at the Pacific Coast Borax mine was killed instantly when his car hit a truck New Years Eve night. Ray, who was 25 years old, had been in Boron and had enjoyed a dinner at the Siiver Dollar Cafe that evening. His home was in Arvin and he was apparently on his way home when the accident occured around 9:30 that evening about three miles east of Mojave. Ray had been working at the mine for over two years and he had been a member of the softball team for that length of time. This makes a double tragedy in the family for Ray's father, N. R. Brooks, was killed last November at Tehachapi when his car was hit by a train there. Our community extends its deepest sympathy to .Ray's mother in her great loss.
