Lorraine Alderson, 48, of Shannon died at the scene, and Joe Tomshaw, 30, of Lancaster, died at Kern Medical Center after being medevaced from the scene. Neither were wearing safety belts, the CHP said. According to the CHP report, the pair were passengers in the Jeep driven by Jeremy Day, 28, of Lancaster “above the maximum speed limit” when the vehicle struck the rear of a three-axle big-rig tow truck towing a three-axle Freightliner truck at a much slower speed. The CHP said Day was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and manslaughter, and was booked at the Mojave jail.
