Ward, 63, a rancher, died early Wednesday morning, June 8, wherr he was overcome by smoke caused by a fire in his ranch home. Location was 4 miles west of Rosamond and ½ mile north of Willow Springs Road opposite Burton Bros. Mine. Mojave firemen' asnwered a call for assistance at 2:37 a.m. but the fire was handled by Tommy Loonils and 6 Rosamond volunteer firemen. Loomis stated that the dead man had been alone in the house at the time and had evidently tried to escape as the body was found near the back door, Robert Sear, a resident of Burton's Camp turned in the alarm when he drove by and noticed a fire in the house. The body was removed to the O'Donnell, Funeral Home where funeral arrangements are pending.
