Vedder of the marine corps as killed in action. Vedder was a son of Dwight G. Vedder, former oil geologist who became the owner of extensive oil properties in the Mount Poso area. The family lived a Coalinga and Bakersfield and Milton Vedder spent his boyhood in this city. His wife lives at the Motel Inn here. In May, 1943, a dispatch from the South Pacific told how a navy flying boat had rescued Vedder from an island after his plane had been shot down by Japanese.
