Karpe, 21, of Bakersfield, copilot of a B17, who was reported missing in action over Germany August 16th. A telegram from Adjutant General J. A. Ulio to Karpe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer F. Karpe, of Rosedale, and his wife, the former Frances Roberts, of Tupman, now living with the Karpes in Rosedale, says it has been established the lieutenant was killed August 16th. Karpe was graduated from the Bakersfield High School and Junior College and was attending the University of California at Los Angeles when he quit to join the army air forces.
