Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JW.2ADE/8130 Message Board Post: Two Killed In Car Crash Near Sand Canyon One person was pronounced dead on arrival and a 6 year, old boy died Monday, after a terrific head on collision thirteen miles west of Mojave on Hwy. 466 near the mouth of Sand Canyon, Sunday, March 3 at 3:35 p.m.. George Buckley, of Burbank, California, was headed west in a 1941 De Soto, lost control on a long sweeping curve, hit the bridge railing and glanced off which threw his car directly into the path of a '55 Buick driven by 1st Lt. Franklin Canlett, Jr. of Portland, Oregon, who is stationed at Camp Irwin. Mrs. Eleanor Taylor, a passenger in the Buckley car and the driver were pinned in the wreckage for possibly an hour before the rescuers could free them. Also passengers were Mr. and Mrs. Bryant of Burbank. Mrs. Taylor was killed and the others suffered major injuries. Lt. Canlett's car was also occupied by his wife, Nancy and two children Debra, 4 and Jeffery, 6, who died later. All victims were under shock and no statements couId be obtained at the scene. O'Donnell ambulance from, Mojave and Snyder ambulance from Bakersfield were called and all injured were taken to the Tehachapi Hospital for first aid.. Later they were transferred to Bakersfield and Mojave. The accident investigation was made by CHP officers Keller and Stovall with indications that charges may be filed against Buckley.
