According to the grief stricken son he and his mother had been on a desert trip and stopped for some target practice. She had been using a .22 rifle while he was shooting a .22 automatic. He asked his mother if she would like to trade guns and as he started to hand her the automatic he accidentally squeezed the trigger and the bullet struck her in the head. The youth said he attempted to flag down passing cars without success and finally went to the nearest house to telephone for help. O'Donnell ambulance brought the woman to Mojave Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Deputies F. R. Nelson and John Barrett investigated and an inquest was held Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
