The boys resided in a one-room apartment and used the cook stove oven for heating the room. According to John, he and Juvenal stayed up late the night of December 23 at their home at 205½ H St. At 3 a.m. they decided to cook an early breakfast and then decided to go to bed without the meal. John said he awakened later smelling gas, presumably from the stove, and feeling very sick. John opened the door and got back in bed. He said that he felt so weak that it is hard to remember just exactly what did happen. Later in the morning their brother-in-law, Robert Samano came to their house. He tried to get the brothers to go to the hospital, but they felt that they would soon be well. They did go to Samano's house and were attended by Dr. Michael Wasylycia, who ordered them taken to the Mojave hospital where they were given blood and oxygen. Juvenal is is survived by his brothers, Frank of Los Angeles and John; a sister, Mrs. Robert Samano and a grandmother, Mrs. Francisco Reyes, all of Tehachapi. An inquest held at the O'Donnell Funeral Home in Mojave declared his death due to natural causes. Graveside services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Malachy Cemetery in Tehachapi.
