Her untimely death came as a distinct shock to her many friends here as she had been a resident for many years. . Born in Overbrook, Kansas, December 29, 1889, she came to Mojave as a young girl and reportedly worked in the famous old Harvey House here. Later she worked for Mr. Blum in his old general store that was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Cooper was married to Mr. Verner S. Cooper and both their sons were born in Mojave. Mr. Cooper was an engineer on the Southern Pacific for many years, but had been in poor health the past seven years. He had been on the Jawbone run and at one time he was forced to go on the run and leave his wife fighting a fire which threatened their property years ago. Always a community-minded woman, she circulated a petition to build the present Mojave Elementary School and her influence played a great part in its construction. She was a member of Mojave Court, Order of Amaranth. Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband, Verner, two sons, Verner S. Jr., of San Bernardino and Robert C. of Los Angeles. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Lola Lilly of Los Angeles; Mrs. Elsie Sirers of Norwalk; and Lenora Pittinger of Yucaipa. Also surviving are three brothers, Clarence Haus of Mojave; Arthur of St. Louis, Mo. and Alvin Turner of Kansas. Services under the direction of O'Donnell Funeral Home were held in the Community Congregational Church which was filled to near capacity with floral pieces. Rachel Hodges was soloist and the officiant was Rev. J. H. Baccus of Redlands. Graveside services were conducted by Mojave Court, Order of Amaranth with interment in Mojave Cemetery.
