Boggs July 21, 1928 – March 29, 2005 A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at the Wood Family Funeral Service chapel for James L. Boggs, 76, who passed away on March 29 in Bakersfield. Boggs was born July 21, 1928, in Archer City, Texas to Lewis and Freely Boggs. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1946 to 1948. He then enlisted in the United States Army as a corporal from 1949 to 1952. Boggs married his wife of 53 years, Kay Carolyn Barton, on June 14, 1952, in Bakersfield. They relocated to Tehachapi from Castaic in 1988 upon his retirement from the oilfields. For the next 10 years, he first worked as a real estate agent at Century 21 Mountain Realty and then as an associate at Cardinal, Realtors. He loved the outdoors, gardening with his wife and taking long walks with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid football fan. Boggs was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Boggs is survived by his wife, Carolyn Boggs, son James S. Boggs and daughter Peggy Steed and her husband Rick, all of Tehachapi; grandchildren Lorri, Mindy, Cody and Shelby; great-grandson Marcus James; and brother, Danny Boggs of Bakersfield. Pastor Richard Hill will officiate at the service. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
