Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JW.2ADE/7899 Message Board Post: Ranch Employee Found Dead Mr. Russell Jones, 44, was found dead in the house on the M & R Ranch where he and his wife had been living for some time. Mrs. Jones had been away, but came lack about 4 p. m. Wednesday, December 29th to find him lying on the bed, a bullet-hole through his head, his hand and the gun lying on his stomach. She ran down into camp where a call to the police was made. Officers from Mojave and Ridgecrest came out immediately. It was found that the bullet had entered the head behind the right ear, gone through the mattress, a suitcase setting beside the bed and was discovered lying on the floor. The Coroner from Bakersfield arrived about 9 p.m. and pronounced it a case of suicide, death apparently having taken place at 2 a.m. Wednesday. A Brother living in Shafter was notified. Mr. Jones had been operating a mechanical cotton picker on the Goforth ranch. Funeral services were held at graveside, Monday, January 3rd in Mojave cemetery under the direction of O'Donnell Funeral Home. Rev. Lee Archer, Assembly of God Pastor, officiated.
