Willis FIND BODY Rumors flew thick and fast when a man identified as Hurvey F. Willis, 50, was found lying on the ground in the rear of 327 K Street in Mojave. An eye witness, Mr. Sherman, is alleged to have said he saw another man, identified as Jack Harman, standing over the body of the man which he reported to Constable George Hodges who called a doctor and the man was pronounced dead, whereupon the Coroner was called. On investigation by the Mojave Sheriff's office revealed that there had been a fight between the two men and pending an autopsy Mr. Harman was booked on suspicion of murder. The fight, it is said, was caused by Harman's demand that Willis move out of a cabin he had been living in free. When the man refused, the owner, Harman, put him out. Deputy Coroner Ross Jones, of Bakersfield was called and ordered the body taken to Kern General Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Later information revealed the fact that Mr. Willis had been a very sick man and this was supported by the autopsy which gave the cause of death as lobar pneumonia with other complications. These facts caused the release of Jack Harman and the charges against him were dropped by the District Attorney's office.
