Cox, 28, Santa Ana. Cox had been practicing dive bombing and “failed to recover” Marine officials at El Toro said Monday morning. The fatal flight was part of routine bombing practice on one of several ranges connected with the air base. Speculation about why the pilot failed to pull out of the dive was not reported. A veteran of fighting in Korea, Cox is survived by his widow and two children, a boy, 3 and a girl, 8 months and his mother in Indianapolis, Ind. Vern Howard of the O’Donnell Mortuary, Mojave, said that the body was shipped to Oakland on Tuesday morning where it was received and interred in Golden State National Cemetery.
