He was 86. Born June 27, 1906 in Ferndale, Wash. Mr. Newkirk worked as a machinist for China Lake Naval Ordnance Test Station for 25 years. He served in the Navy from 1929 to 1930 and had lived in Ridgecrest since 1945. Mr. Newkirk was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 377 in Artesia and served as president of the Machinist Union. Mr. Newkirk is survived by his wife of 54 years Helen Newkirk of Ridgecrest, daughter Sharon Lack of Gilbert, Ariz., granchildren Carla Boldt of Victorville, Dena Minneci of Ontario and Randy Lack of Fontana, great grandchildren Amber and Jacob Boldt of Victorbille and Corrie Minneci of Ontario. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Saturday Jan. 2, 1993 at Holland & Lyons Chapel. Past Master Eli Harrison of the Masonic Lodge will officiate. Private cremation arrangements are being handled by Holland & Lyons Mortuary.
