Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JW.2ADE/7763 Message Board Post: Edwards Test Pilot Killed Edwards AFB, Calif Captain John Huntinton Gregorius, son of Mr. Thomas K. Gregorius of 925 Freeport Road, Tarentum, Penn., was killed on July 14, 1953, when the F-84-F swept-wing fighter bomber he was flying from Luke Air Force Base, Arizona to Edwards Air- Force Base crashed near Wickenburg, Arizona. Details of the crash were not immediately available, pending an investigation by a board of qualified officers. An experimental test pilot, Captain Gregorius had been stationed at the Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB, since his return from Korea in August of 1952. A veteran of World War II as well as Korea, he first entered the service in 1943, receiving his commission in April 1945. During his tours of duty, he won the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters, flying over 170 combat missions. A graduate of Harbrack Union High School in Brackenridge, Penn., Captain Gregorius also attended the University of California at Los Angeles.
