Virgil David Lessenberg, 23, a Marine stationed at Mojave Marine Air Base was killed Sun. morning, October 18 at 4:00 a.m. when a jeep he was riding in hit a rut and threw the man out. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Marine Base Hospital. Authorities said he was alone in the jeep checking telephone lines on the base when the accident happened. The deceased was classified as a communications expert and a "trouble shooter." His family lives in Lomita. The body was turned over to Air Force Authorities at Edwards who investigated the accident.
