She was 90. A funeral service will be held Wednesday March 30 at 2 pm at Holland & Lyons Chapel. Rev. Mark Q. Rowland of Grace Lutheran church will officiate. Burial will follow at Desert Memorial Park. Mrs. Vanderbeck was born Dec. 20, 1914 in Meridian, Miss. She came to the desert in 1945 with her husband and children. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She was a Red Cross volunteer and founding member and past president of the Women's Community Club in the early days of China Lake. In her senior years she was a member of the Needlecraft Craft Club and excelled in knitting, crocheting and rug making. She is survived by her children Carol Christiansen of Ridgecrest and John C. Vanderbeck and wife Fran of Seattle, grandchildren Aaron christiansen of Inyokern, Wade Christiansen and wife Linda of Ridgecrest, Jenny, Amy and Katy Vanderbeck of Seattle, Lisa Weir and husband Paul of Tucson, step-grandsons Frank Lawrence of Seattle and Scott Lawrence of Oregon, great grandsons John and George Weir of Tucson, step-great grandchildren Michele Gray of Seattle, Kaylen Lawrence of Seattle, Timothy Nix of McKinleyville, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Howard Auld of Ridgecrest, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Angie Huff of Ridgecrest, special cousin Ernine Allison of Sonora, nieces Christine Meyers and Eileen Pearl of Ridgecrest, nephews Bruce Auld and Mike Huff of Ridgecrest, David Huff of Florida and Billy Huff of Connecticut, Gordon Thompson of St. Louis and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John P. Vanderbeck in July, 1999 and a sister Mildred Koliche in 1997.
