She was 93. Visitation was from 4 to 8 pm Thursday March 24 at Kern Memorial Chapel in victorville. Funeral services will be held at the Little Country Christian Church in Hesperia on the corner of "C" and Main Street on Friday March 25 at 2 pm. Internment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Mich. March 30. Rev. James Goss, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene will officiate at the service in Hesperia. Rev. Kimber Decker, pastor of New Hope Free Methodist Church will conduct the service in Kentwood, Mich. Mrs. Bird was born June 23, 1911 in Belding, Mich. She lived in Michigan until 1959 when she moved with her husband Lawrence Bird Sr. to victorville. He became a teacher at Victor Valley High School and she served as the assistant director of the Free Methodist Church nursery school. They moved to Apple Valley in 1963. She was self employed as director of Kiddie Klub preschool of Apply Valley from 1963 to 2000. She officially retired at the age of 89 and moved to Foremost unassisted living apartments in Hesperia. In May 2004 she moved to Ridgecrest to live with her son eventually residing at the Ridgecrest Healthcare Center for the past five months. Mrs. Bird was known to the Victor Valley as Lady Bird. She joined her husband on their radio program, Early Bird Hymn Time and Sunday Hymn Time from 1967 to 1990 on radio station KAVR. She also assisted her husband when he was the pastor of the congregational Church (now known as The Little Country Christian church) on the corner of "C" and Main Stree in Hesperia from 1970 to 1990. She served as Minister of Visitation for the church during the 199s. She also served as moderator of the church for two years. She was nominated for "Volunteer of the Year" by the town of Apple Valley in 1999 for her service to the community as a day-care provider and for her visitation of the elderly and shut-ins in local care homes. She was known for her tireless energy and devotion to her family, friends and others but most importantly to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her wish for all of her family and friends would be that they would come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior so they will spend eternity with her in heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Lawrence Bird Sr. She is survived by her brother Ward Bodine of Redlands, her children and their spouses Eleanor and Stan Chase of Kalamazoo, Mich., Gloria and Howard Martin of Lansing, Mich. and Larry and Jane Bird of Ridgecrest, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
