He was 95. A memorial service will be held Thursday May 19, 2005 at Holland & Lyons Chapel at 1 pm. The Rev. Robert E. Gamel of St. Ann's Catholic Church will officiate. Cremation will be private. Born in Bakersfield on Aug. 12, 1909 Faustino Mier was better known as "Frosty" to all who knew and loved him. He spoke softly, loved the railroad and baseball. He started with the Southen Pacific Railroad when he was 17, the summer of the 100 year flood. He bagan as a laborer on the Caliente Railroad Bridge. Frosty was a conductor on the run from Mojave to Neeles, then a brakeman where he worked Mojave to Bakersfield and Mojave to Lone Pine. His family says this about him: He was kind to his niece and always remembered her birthday. Her aunt, when asked, "Why me?" replied "I don't know, he doesn't remember anyone else!" Given was always cash in a card. Over the years the amount was increased and was always appreciated and remembered. Frosty was a gentle, quiet, dependable, reliable guy. His niece will miss him the rest of her life. He was married to Lorene Thelma Mier in 1945 in Las Vegas, Nev. They had a long and happy union. Lorne is a well-known artist in Antelope Valley, Kern County, Texas and Florida. Frosty is survived by his wife Lorene T. Mier of Ridgecrest and his niece Glenda Dietzel of Ridgecrest.
