She was 76. Memorial service will be held on Saturday May 7 at 11:00 am at the Ridgecrest Church of the Nazarene, 571 N. Norma Ave. Mrs. Smith was born on Nov. 25, 1928 and later reared in Perry, Fla. She and husband Lorin Raymond Smith retired in Heber Springs, Ark. where she was an avid golfer, learned to paint, belonged to the local garden club and became a bird watcher, an active participant in the Republican organization and an active member of the Lutheran church. After her beloved husband of 58 years died in 2002 Mrs. Smith came to live with her son Lorin and his wife Donna in Ridgecrest. She adapted to the desert life and enjoyed being a part of the Desert Artists League, the Church of the Nazarene and a part in the very active lives of her grandchildren and five of her great-grandchildren. She delighted in frequent visits from her daughter Mary Elizabeth Fjelstad and Grandson Jarrad, both of Washington. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death in 2002 by her beloved husband and two of her three children, Lorin Richard Smith who passed away April 1, 2005 and James Allen Smith deceased June 15, 1989. Mrs. Smith is survived by her only living child Ms. Fjelstad, three siblings, Marylee Lind of Texas, Lonnie Austin of Florida, Quib Austin of Pennsylvania, grandchildren Dawn Savko, Aaron Smith, Lorin Russell Smith, Jarrad Fjelstad, James Smith, Terri Taylor, their 10 grandchildren and her two beloved dog buddies Peluche and Tribble. In lieu of flowers the family cordially requests that donations be sent to the Church of The Nazarene Pew Refurbishment Fund, 571 N. Norma Ave. Media information provided by the family.
