Charlie came, to the desert in 1912 and homesteaded 160 acres which has long since been swallowed up by Edwards Air Force Base. He took over operations of the general store in an area near the old Muroc School in 1918, which he operated continuoisly until 1952 when his property was purchased by the U. S. Government. Those who remember the old store will recall that everything from Model T Ford parts to washtubs could be secured there. We featured Charlie as an old timer in our newspaper about 10 years ago, telling how he came to the desert to die, and outlived most of his relatives. He was born Sept. 9, 1873 in Sonoma, Calif. and was a veteran of the Spanish American War. Survivors' include his widow, Hatie C. Anderson of Boron; a daughter Arlene Millhollin of Atascadero; a sister May Wade of Santa Rosa; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 25, at 2:00 p.m. in Mojave District Cemetery with V,F.W. Post 3711 officiating. Turner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
