Thanks to both of you who have responded to my message. Until today I was only guessing what he was doing or where he was living based upon memories of older family rememberances. Now that I know he was there in 1910 I can proceed. Would there be records of "partners" in the legal records of Kern Co.? Sales of Wells, Applications for licenses, Deeds, Abstracts, etc.? Any ideas for additional research? Did he own property in Kern Co.? Marriage records Another tale was that a WW1 soldier had seen Sam Sapp leaving a Troop Ship in Valdavostok, Russia. This person said that he was going onboard the ship and Sam was going off the ship on the down gangway.????? He hailed Sam Sapp with a loud Hay Sam! Sam stopped waved and acknowledge the hail. This person was from the same small town of Newberry, Fl. and had known him prior to him leaving for California. They had a very brief conversation between the gangways as the troops were embarking as a group and the officers in charge of the embarking soldiers made this soldier "move along". The soldier thought that Sam might have been in the Merchant Marine service or the Navy, my communcant did not know which. This would have been about 1917-18. This is the last reference to Sam except that "he must have died sometime after 1910 or at least he never contacted the family again and the family lost track of him..
