NORMAN AARON WHEELER 1952-2005 Ridgecrest resident Sgt. NormanAaron Wheeler passed away Sunday May 29, 2005 at the Veteran's Administration Long Beach Health Care System. He was 53. Visitation will be held Sunday June 5 from 2 to 5 pm at Holland & Lyons Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday June 6 at 3 pm at Calvary Assembly of God, 800 W. Upjohn Ave. Pastor ChurchHobson and Bishop Yolanda Pasillas will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the US Marine Corps Honor Guard, Barstow. Sgt. Wheeler was born April 4, 1952 in Reno, Nev. He attended high school in Sparks, Nev. where he was on the wrestling and track teams and took wood and auto shop classes. He graduated from Sparks High School in 1970 and joined the US Marine Corps. After serving with the Marines from 1970 to 1974 he attended the University of Nevada where to (sic) studied drafting and criminal law. He earned his degree in drafting. He also attened Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute in 1979 and 1980. He took advance training courses in Jacksonville, Fla., Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro and the Naval Air Station, Lemoore. While in Albuquerque, N.M. he served as president and secretary of the Albuquerque Bowling League. He lived in Belen and Albuquerque, NM prior to moving to Ridgecrest in 1993. He began his civil service career in July 1983 as a GS-5 draftsman illustrator. He worked his way from GS-5 to GS-11 where he became an ordnance equipment specialist. He was know to his co-workers at the Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division as the "King of Weapons Loading." During his career he wrote and published numerous weapons assembly and instruction manuals. He (sic) dedication, courage and drive to excel earned him respect in the Marine/Navy community around the world. He will be remembered as a "Man of Honor." Semper Fi. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Wheeler and his nephew Jason Wheeler. He is survived by his wife Theresa L. Wheeler of Ridgecrest, daughter and husband Veronica and Gabriel Flores of Ridgecrest, mother Marian Wheeler of Tacoma, Wash., brother and wife Paul and Jeanie Wheeler of Hood River, Ore., brother Danny Wheeler of El Cajon, sister and husband Nancy and Rick Lunn of Covington, Wash., grandchildren Jonathon, Patrick, Gabriel and Matthew Flores.
