E 10 BAKERSFIELD INVESTOR DIES IN SHIP MISHAP St. John, Antigua - A 36-year-old Porterville man died Friday of injuries received during an accident aboard a ship cruising the Caribbean Islands. William Quandt, 36, a Bakersfield real estate investor, reportedly was electrocuted during an accident aboard the Windjammer cruises schooner Polynesia. The ship was docked in the St. Johns, Antigua harbor when a thunderstorm broke out Friday evening according to a spokesman for the U.S. embassy. Quandt was helping the ship's band members cover their instruments when he slipped on the deck and accidentally grabbed a live wire, an embassy spokesman told reporters. Doctors aboard the ship administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and Quandt was rushed to Halvenson's Hospital in Antigua, but he died an hour later, said the embassy spokesman. Quandt's body was flown to Tulsa, Okla. Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon in nearby Fairland, Okla. A native of Arkansas, Quandt and his family lived until 1954 in Okay, Okla. They moved to Porterville, where the family was involved in residential development. He attended Porterville and Bakersfield colleges and served in the U.S. Navy.
