Walter Lutrel Services were conducted today, Wednesday, may 1 in the chapel of the J.W. Sams & Sons Funeral Home in Arvin, for Rev. Walter E. Lutrel, 79, of 201 Orange Street, Arvin, who died Sunday at his home. The Reverend J. B. Layer, pastor of the Fairfax Assembly of God Church officiated. Interment followed in the Arvin District Cemetery. Rev. Lutrel was born in Crawford County, Arkansas. He moved to Arvin in 1938 and worked at DeGiorgio Farms until 1968 where he copastored the Full Gospel Church in Christ. Survivors include his widow, Bessie; a brother, Roy of Bakersfield; a sister, Beatrice Hugen of Bakersfield; two step-sons, Eugene Lindsay of San Diego and Donald Lindsay of Riverside; four step-daughters, Pat Call and Marie Gay both of Texarkana, Arkansas; Lois Garnek of Fontana and Joyce Layton of Rialto. Wilson, 86, of Shafter who passed away Feb. 24. Rev. Vernon Pollema will officiate. Harlin was born in Missouri and came to Kern County with his parents in 1917. He attended Rio Bravo and Rosedale Schools, and graduated from Bakersfield high School in 1928. At Bakersfield College he met his future wife, Elma Handel. They were married March 8, 1936 and enjoyed almost 61 joyous years together. Harlin was a life long farmer and was still farming with his son Stanley and grandchildren in a partnership called Handel & Wilson Farms. Over the years he has been an active member of the Kern County Farm Bureau and the Kern County Potato Growers Assn. and served on the Board of the Shafter Wasco Ginning Co. He held 48 years of perfect attendance in the Shafter Kiwanis club and was an active member of the Shafter AARP and the Shafter Historical Society. Harlin loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and always strove to live for Him. He was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church for 60 years and served many years as Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, and elder. He was the Fellowship Hall building committee chairman and also a director of the Reformed churches Summer Camp. He served on the Board of the Westminster Theological Seminary and was a member of the Gideons. He leaves behind his loving wife Elma, son Gary and daughter-in-law Pat Wilson, son Stanley and daughter-in-law Nancy Wilson, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, sister Irene and husband Steve Furman, sister Francis and husband Milo Hall, brother Calvin Wilson, sister-in-law Jean Jackson, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was 57. A rosary will be said in his honor Thursday, April 7 at 7 pm at Holland & Lyons Chapel. A memorial service will be Friday April 8 at 1 pm followed by a reception at Holland & Lyons Chapel. Mr. Hamaty was born Aug. 4, 1947 in Boston, Mass. At 18 he joined the US Navy and was stationed at the China Lake Naval Base. He continued his career at China Lake up to and including 10 years heading up, as project manager, the multi-million dollar Sidewinder Air 9/M Telemetry Pack Production. He pitched for the Gamecocks, a fast pitch softball team, which he formed and through which he made lasting friendships. Spending time with his grandchildren brought him the greatest of all job. Despite his many achievements, few things in life suited him better than his role as 'Grandpa John". Although quiet, he was thoughtful and generous any time he felt some word or deed might benefit another. He will always be remembered as forthright and kinds. He will be deeply missed and in the thoughts of his loving family and many firends forever. He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Hamaty and mother Margie Tawa, stepmother Ann Hamaty, uncle Larry Zannino and aunt Mary Tawa. He was 89. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16 at 10 am at Immanuel Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Logan will officiate. Burial will be at Rosedale Memorial Park in Grand Rapids, Mich. Mr. Slate was born June 3, 1915 in Hart, Mich. He graduated from Hart High School and served in the US Army Signal Corps as a radar operator from January 1942 to December 1945. He worked as a machine shop operator, retiring in 1990. He moved to Ridgecrest from Wyoming, Mich. in 1997. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ridgecrest and a volunteer at the Salvation Army Food Bank. He was 72. A memorial services will be held Friday April 15 at 2 pm at Holland & Lyons Chapel. The Rev. Mark Q. Rowland pastor of Grace Lutheran Church will officiate. Mr. Smith was born July 3, 1932 in Belmont, Ill. to George and Villa Smith. He was reared by his mother and grew up in Illinois. He moved to Independence in the 1950s to be closer to his father George, and later moved to Bishop. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1956. He owned and operated a Bishop Roller Skater's Rink in the 1960s and was an avid skater into his 30s. He worked as an equipment operator for various companies, retiring in 1994. He was a retired member of Operating Engineers Local 12 as an equipment operator in Bishop and Ridgecrest. He truly enjoyed retirement, fishing and drinking coffee with his friends. He will be greatly missed by family and was a good friend to many. He was preceded in death by his son Doug Smith and companion of 13 years Helen Strother. He is survived by two daughters Linda Curtis of Virginia Beach, Va. and Karen Ronnow of Tinton Falls, N.J., ason Kevin Smith of Montrose, Colo. and two grandchildren. He was a loving, good hearted man who was loved by many, a handyman who was always smiling and happy. He had healing hands and was called the Desert Angel a spiritual man who will be missed by many." Mr. Jedlicka was born April 25, 1915 in Castell, Texas. He married Elnora Schlandt on July 25, 1940. He moved to Trona with his wife and son in 1945 and worked for American Potash and Kerr McGee Chemical as a warehouse clerk for 35 years. He moved to Ridgecrest in 1982 after retiring from Kerr McGee. He also served in the US Army. He loved to camp and fish in the High Sierras, spending many weekend and vacations with his family and granddaughter. After retiring he and his wife spent many months traveling in their RV across the states visiting relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Setma Jedlicka, granddaughter Sierra Glonek and brothers-in-law Clarence, Archie and Almon Schlandt. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Elnora E. Betty was born Aug. 29, 1931, in Acme, Texas, but was raised and spent most of her 57 years in Bakersfield. On March 5, 1950, she married her Life-Mate Robert W. "Bob" Noyes. Their 39 years together was her "Life". Betty was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ latter Day Saint - 7th Ward where she served on the Relief Society and gave many hours of her time to help others in time of need. She will be best remembered for the countless hours spanning over 8 years of loving and mothering some 24 babies of which she and Bob kept as Foster-Parents prior to having 6 Grandchildren of their own. The Rev. James C. Voytko will be the celebrant and burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Mrs. Miller was born in Omaha, Neb., on Nov. 23, 1902. She was a resident of California for 50 years, the last 44 of which were spent in Kern County. Mrs. Miller was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church. She is survived by two sons, James J. and his wife, Ella Mae; and Donald F. Miller both of Bakersfield; three grandchildren, Anna Mae Briscoe, Dawn Pimienta and Laura Miller; three great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Summer and Brian; and a sister Eva Rynes of Illinois. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Miller.
