Born in Monticello, N.Y. she moved to California in 1949 with her family. She married Howard Berman July 22, 1967 in Hollywood. Mrs. Berman graduated and received her certification in Early Childhood Development on May 30, 1991. She was employed by Cerro Coso Child Development Center and was privately employed as a daycare provider to many families in the community. Mrs. Berman loved working with children, trips to Laughlin, Nev., art, walking and yard sales. She spent the last few years of her liife (sic) as a homemaker, caring for her family. She is survived by Howard her husband of 36 years and her beloved son Harvey. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sherie. Donald was born on May 20, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio to William and Marie Robey. He held a diploma in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky and a B.S. in physics from Case Institute of Technology. Donald served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, installing and repairing ground-based communications and direction finding equipment for the U.S. Air Force. He then joined the U.S. Navy Electronics Laboratory in 1948 and worked for eight years in underwater sound and research and development. He joined General Dynamics in 1956 and worked 11 years, specializing in space flight problems. In January, 1967, Donald joined Autonetics as a senior project engineer and was in charge of the Multipurpose Information Transfer Satellite. He remained at Rockwell participating in many projects until his retirement. He moved to Tehachapi in 1990. Donald is survived by his wife, Maria Robey, of Tehachapi; 12 children; and many grandchildren. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements. McCabe was born on Sept. 2, 1933 in Bonham, Texas to John Sr. and Thyra McCabe. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor in the Aerospace industry for 28 years. McCabe moved to Tehachapi in 2004 to be near his family. He had a passion for cars, which included owning a ‘69 corvette and always a cadillac. Being an avid sports fan, his favorite teams were the L.A. Lakers and the St. Louis Rams. In 1954, he played baseball for the Negro League in Texas and Louisiana. He also enjoyed playing golf. McCabe was a 15-year member of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge #77. McCabe is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Jackie McCabe of Tehachapi; sons, Michael McCabe and his wife Angela of Ft. Worth, Texas and David McCabe and his wife Veronica of Tehachapi; grandchildren, Brandon, Richard, Sterling, David Jr., Andrea and Michael; great-granddaughter, Mercedes; sister, Pearl Durden of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. McCabe was preceded in death by his son, Ryan McCabe, in 1995. Reverend Andrew Walker of the Country Oaks Baptist Church officiated at the service. Interment followed at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements. A memorial service was held Monday, April 18, at Summit Christian Fellowship with Pastor Scott Smith officiating. Born March 30, 1951 at Camp Joseph H. Pendleton Naval Hospital in San Diego County, Bruce was raised in the South Bay area of Southern California. He served his country as a combat-medic in United States Army during the Vietnam era. Bruce was a “people person,” always knowing how to give reassurance and comfort to those around him. He was generous and kind, giving the “shirt off his back” and willing to “take a bullet” if needed. He was passionate about sports, loved reading and was a skilled musician. He moved and spent time in Oregon, later moving to Washington state where he met his best friend, Susan, whom he married Nov. 5, 1988. Bruce is survived by his wife Susan Kuhn and daughters Meghan and Michele Kuhn of Tehachapi; mother Doris Solis of Tehachapi; son Justin Kuhn and granddaughter Destiny of Troutdale, Ore.; daughter Marilyn; brothers Charles Cooper of Tehachapi; Donald Kuhn of Virginia, Frank Kuhn of Redondo Beach and Gary Nilsson of Long Beach. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Although he struggled with several serious health issues during the last years of his life, he never lost his love for his family and friends, or his faith in God. Krone Jan. 2, 1920 – April 21, 2005 Charles C. “Charlie” Krone passed away unexpectedly on April 21 in Tehachapi at the age of 85. He was a loving and devoted husband to Kay, his wife of 63 years, and a wonderful father to his daughter Katie. He was like a father to his grandson, Scott, who will miss his love and guidance; and his granddaughter Kristi, who will miss his sweet and caring nature. Charlie was married in 1942 and went into the 8th Army Air Corps in 1943. He was stationed in Thurleigh, England with the 306th Bomb Group as a ball-turret gunner on a B-17. He flew 35 missions during World War II. In 1954, Charlie and his family moved from Shawnee, Kan. to Southern California. He was employed by Singer/Librascope in Glendale and continued working there until his retirement in 1985. Upon retiring, Charlie and Kay settled in Stallion Springs for good golf and good friends. Until recently, Charlie still flew his beloved 1949 Beechcraft Bonanza and was a member of the Octogenarian Pilots Association. A celebration of his life will be held May 15 at 4 p.m. at the Tehachapi Airport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice. He was 74. Cremation will be private and burial will be at Rand District Cemetery in Johannesburg. Mr. Cope was born on Oct. 24, 1930 in Arkansas. He was a previous resident of Michigan. He was a retired welder and a US Army veteran. His family says this about him: "He grew up and lived in Michigan until he joined the Army. He was a Korean War veteran. Rose was born on Dec. 9, 1935 in Bakersfield. At an early age, Rose and her family moved to Tehachapi where she attended local schools. She graduated from Tehachapi High School with the class of 1954. Rose worked as a records specialist for 23 years at the California Correctional Institution. She was also a faithful and devoted employee to the City of Tehachapi, performing as City Treasurer from April 17, 1984 to Dec. 5, 2000. Rose loved camping, hunting and fishing with her family. She was a league bowler, winning the 47th annual California WBA Championships with her team in 1973. Rose thoroughly enjoyed cooking and compiled a library of cookbooks. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Rose enjoyed being able to watch her children and grandchildren participate in their sports activities. She was baptized into the Lord in 1955 and attended the Church of Christ. Throughout her illness, Rose always had a spirit of hope and trusted in the Lord. Rose is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Thomas Freng of Tehachapi; sons, Walter G. Collins and his wife Mary of Bakersfield and Stanley P. Collins and his wife Tracey of Ridgecrest; daughter, Rebecca Johnson of Ridgecrest; stepson, Thomas James Freng of Tehachapi; grandchildren, Austin, Jared, Elliott, Amanda, Brandon, Bradley, Sandra and Carson; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Aurora, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Kambralynn and Serah; mother, Rose Ford of Tehachapi; sisters, Valerie Aragon of Tehachapi, Jeanette Irwin of Bakersfield and Marilyn Brown of Needles; and numerous nieces and nephews. In his professional life, Buck had a distinguished career with the Los Angeles County Probation Department. He rose to the position of probation director and managed programs at juvenile camps, juvenile hall and a large area office. He was an effective leader, respected for his integrity and professionalism. An 18-year resident of Bear Valley Springs, Buck was an avid horseman, involved in equestrian events, causes and organizations. He promoted horsemanship to children and adults while serving as president of the Bear Valley Buckaroos, an organization that sponsors play days, clinics and cattle-sorting events. Buck enjoyed tennis and he served as president of the BVS Tennis Club. He and Julie attended St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Tehachapi. To his wife Julie, Buck was her best friend, confidant and loving companion. Buck was a man of few words but when he talked he had something to say and everyone listened. He was a devoted husband, a loyal friend and a man who embodies honesty, sensitivity and good character. Manuel was born on July 1, 1926 in Pueblo, Colo. to Tobias and Consuelo Barela. He served in the United States Navy during World War II at Pearl Harbor and experienced many close calls during his military service. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Culver City for 32 years. Manuel loved to ride a Harley in his younger years and was always tinkering with cars. He enjoyed playing “Chicken Foot” with his Nazarene Church group and loved Mexican food. Manuel’s faith was the guiding force in his life. He was a faithful worker in the Tehachapi Church of the Nazarene and helped Pastor Gollnick establish the Stallion Springs Church. Manuel is survived by his wife, Clareen Barela of Tehachapi; daughters, Katherine Barela of Denver, Colo., Beverly Rubalcava of Los Angeles, Doris Fossen of Acton and Wanda Campbell of Veneta, Ore.; sons, Lloyd Barela of Canyon City, Colo. and Tim Barela of Palmdale; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy Esquibel and Benjamin Esquibel, both of Pueblo, Colo.; stepson, Mike Weast of Van Nuys; and stepdaughter, Patti Weast of Lake View Terrace. Pastors John Gollnick and Jerry Powers will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
