The exact date of his death is unknown but the deceased is thought to have been in the rugged area since Monday. He was a research engineer with an aircraft company and his usual residence was 3320 Iroquois. Long Beach. A veteran of World War II, he was single and born in Rock Island, Illinois. An inquest held at the O’Donnell Funeral Home where the body was taken, declared the death to be apparent suicide. He is survived by brothers Edward of Lawndale; William of Long Beach; and Donald, Benny, Samuel and Joseph all of Denver Colorado. Also surviving are two sisters, Amelia Fitch of Denver and Helen Chicro of Pueblo, Colo. The body was shipped to the Bengston Home Mortuary in Denver for funeral arrangements. The deceased was hunting in Kelso Valley with his brothers Raymond and Norman, and he is reported to have put his shotgun, butt first into the back of the pickup they were using when it went off practically decapitating him. Funeral services were held at the Sukey Funeral Home in Los Angeles after an inquest held at the O'Donnell Funeral Home in Mojave. Accidental death was the verdict. Services were held in the Mumaw Chapel at 11 a.m., with interment in Grand View Memmorial Park, Glendale. : He is survived by a brother, Howard of Pa., and two nephews Loring Carpenter of Kansas and Oscar Kidwell of Pa. George Kinton came to Rosamond in 1900 and worked in the Hamilton Mine. After several years he then took the job as foreman for Harry Butterworth: on his cattle ranch. After several years of cattle raising he then took the position of peace officer for Antelope Valley (Deputy Sheriff). From here he took the job as night clerk at the Lancaster Inn Hotel. From here he retired and made his home in Rosamond. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Bedford. Pa.. for many years. Death came as the result of a non-collision auto accident on. Hwy 466 near Caliente Wash on October 16th. Tom had a long career as a law enforcement officer and leaves a host of friends besides his widow and five children. He had taken a job as guard at the Tehachapi Men's Prison. Rosary services were conducted Wednesday, October 26 at the Hopson Mortuary Chapel in Bakersfield. These lives were snuffed out in a terrific head-on collision that demolished both cars. Shirley Jane Nix 33, of 45044 North Fig Ave. Lancaster, driver of vehicle A and her husband Rex Dale Nix of same address were westbound on Ave. H when vehicle B, driven by Otis Allen Kelley, 23, of Mojave struck their car head-on. Robert Pierce, 17, of 313 Shasta Street, Mojave, a passenger in Kelley's car was critically injured and the other three persons were pronounced D.O.A. at Lancaster Community Hospital. Fred Millican, 63, Of 44039 Cedar Ave., Lancaster, driving upon the scene, shortly after the collision, ran into the back of the Nix car while attempting to miss the wrecked cars. No injury was sustained by Mr. Millican, according to Lancaster Sheriff's office reports released. A late bulletin on Robert Pierce obtained from Lancaster Community Hospital stated the boy had been sent to Los Angeles Tuesday for eye surgery to be performed by Dr. Hull. 21 Apr 1955 , Funeral Services For Accident Victim Funeral services for Otis A. (Smokey) Kelley, 23, will be held today, Thursday, at 10 a.m. with full military honors. Rosary was recited Wednesday, April 20 at 8 p.m. in the O'Donnell Funeral Home Chapel. Young Kelley was killed in ahead-on collision, April 17 near Lancaster. He was born July 16, 1931 in Santa Fe, New Mexico and had been a resident of California for 10 years five of which were spent in Mojave, where he had been employed as a switchman for the Southern Pacific. He is a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and was the holder of several medals. Military services will be held by Marines stationed at MCAAS here. Interment will be in Mojave Cemetery. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Rose Patten, Mojave and grandmother, Mrs. John Cunningham of Santa Fe, N. M. Thomas C. Hudson, 59 year old civilian employee with the Air Installations Organization at Edwards AF Base, California, was killed Thursday morning when a caterpillar tractor he was driving for loading on a truck bed struck him as it fell off a trailer. Hudson, a heavy equipment operator at Edwards since 1949, was loading the tractor on a tilt trailer. The tractor slipped on the trailer skids and fell to the ground. Hudson, a resident of Rosamond for the past eight years, is survived by his wife, Louise, a son, Tom Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Wanda Sandberg. His son and daughter, both work at Edwards AF Base. Funeral services were held in Mojave under the direction of the O'Donnell Funeral Home with interment in the Mojave Cemetery. Mrs. Hubbard died on Wednesday morning, August 3, at the San Joaquin hospital in Bakersfield. A victim of cancer, she had been in poor health for some time preceding her death. The Rev. Charles Reeves, former chaplain at the U. S. Naval Ordnance Test Station, China Lake, conducted the services. Pall bearers were James Nosser, of Johannesburg; Jason Brainerd and Edward Riopel of Ridgecrest; M. M. "Jack" Warner, of Inyokern; and Patrick Shields and Roy J. Simi of Lancaster. .] Entombment followed Saturday afternoon at the Sunnyside Mausoleum in Long Beach. Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her husband, Paul, and son, Robert, who are proprietors of Hubbard Printing and publishers of the Indian Wells Valley Independent, a Ridgecrest newspaper; and by a brother and sister, William and Esther Shafer, both of Lake Wilson. Minn. Her sister had arrived from the east two weeks earlier to be with her during her final days. Born in Woodstock, Minn., Mrs. Hubbard had been. a resident of California since 1926. She had resided in Lancaster for 13 years, while Mr. Hubbard was co publisher of the Antelope Valley Ledger-Gazette, and had lived in Johannesburg since 1939. During those years she was active in the family's printing business. Poor health had forced her gradual withdrawal from full-time participation in the business operation. He was born March 1, 1953 in Ridgecrest, Calif., to Mr. and Mrs. 'George Harrison, Jr., who are well known in the desert area. Mr. Harrison worked as a cook for many of the restaurants here, He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Michael and Mickey Harrison of Victorville and one sister, Jacqueline Boswell of Wichita, Kans. Two aunts, Mrs. Jeanine Callahan of Mojave and Mrs. Janet Hanks of' Lancaster survive. Grandparents are George W. Harrison, Sr., of Victorville, and Mrs. Cates of Paducah, Ky. Funeral services will be held Thursday Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in the O'Donnell Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of John D. "Jake” Jacoby of Victorville. Dr. Phelps of the Mojave Com. Cong. Gutshall Killed In Jet Crash Monday The crash of an F9F5 Panther Jet, six miles northeast of the Mojave Marine Base, killed Major Dale Gutshall, 32, at 6:50 a.m. on Monday of this week. Maj. Gutshall, a Navy pilot who entered the service in 1942 had pulled out of the rocket run when the plane crashed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the mishap. Funeral services will be held from El Toro Chapel at 10 a.m. this morning (Thursday), The deceased had 5,600 hours of flying time in transports before joining the El Toro fighter squadron last June. He is survived by his widow, Irene, and two daughters, Terriam, 5, and Dorrace, 2, of 215 Poinsettia St., Orange. Driver of the death car, borrowed from a friend, was Wallace W. Lebel, A/2c 6510th Food Services Sqd. of Edwards. He was going south on Hwy 6 when his vehicle wandered out on the west shoulder of the Highway, broadsided, skidded to the east shoulder and overturned, pinning the Gurin boy underneath. ,Antelope Valley ambulance took Lebel, who suffered major injuries to Mojave Medical Center for first aid and he later was transferred to Edwards AFB Hospital for further treatment. The body of the dead man was taken to Mumaw Funeral Home in Lancaster according to investigating officer Ernest Allington. Grout, 39, San Bernardino, was instantly killed on Monday, October 24, at 10:40 p.m. 2:4s miles west of Boron on Hwy. 466. He was working on a stalled car alongside of the road when hit by a truck driven by Melvin Bennette Christelman, 38, also of San Bernardino, driving west on Hwy. 466. Mr. Grout was caught by the truck body and rolled alongside of the stalled vehicle, then caught by the truck's duals and dragged 90 feet. The body was taken to the O'Donnell Funeral Home in Mojave where an inquest was held Wednesday, October-26, at 10 a.m. No blame was attached to the truck driver and the verdict was accidental death. Killed in the bloody wreck were Charles William Griffin, assistant manager of the Lancaster Safeway store; his wife Helen and two of their six children; Mary 4, and Patrick Michael, 3 months. According to authorities, this was the worst single traffic accident in 1955 to occur in Kern County. The ill fated Griffin vehicle was headed south when it was struck partially head on and turned over, according to reports by the Calif. Hwy Patrol and released by Sgt. Jack Bourdeau. Driver of the other car was Les C. Schultz, 19, of Redondo Beach who, with his brother Walter Marvell, 22, were taken to Mojave Medical Center in serious condition. All available ambulances from O'Donnell ambulance service, A. V. ambulance service and Edwards Air Force Base. Two of the seriously injured Griffin children, Pauline 5, and Shirley Jean 2, were taken to Kern Gen. hospital, 2 others, Chas. William Jr. 4, and Judith Ann 7, were supposedly still in critical condition at Mojave Hospital. His wife, Lilyan, thinking: perhaps he could be revived with medical aid, brought him to the Mojave Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was born August 24, 1882 in Pasadena, the eldest child of a large pioneer family. Lawson was a member of the F. & A. M. of Pasadena and had retired, some years ago as manager of the Mt. View Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Lilyan, Cantil, mother, Jennie H. of Pasadena; three brothers, Levi W., Laguna Beach; J. Reed and Paul, Pasadena; two sisters, June Glddmgs of Long Beach and Blanche Brown, Pasadena. Private funeral services were conducted by the Masonic fraternity at the Mt. View Cemetery Chapel followed by cremation. Arrangements were handled by O'Donnell Funeral Home. Mrs. Galvan was born in Mexico, May 15, 1894 and was a widow, her husband, Ed, having passed away some years earlier. Survivors include her sons, Joe and Edward of Mojave and Phillip of Delano. Daughters are Lupe Galvan and Florence Lara of Mojave; Nellie Lader of Delano and Vee Galvan of Salinas. Rosary services were held Wednesday evening at the Galvan residence, 213 L Street and Mass was celebrated Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of the Desert Church with Father Eckert officiating, Funeral services were in charge of O’Donnell Funeral Home Mojave and interment in Lancaster Cemetery at the side of her husband. . Service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Com. Cong. Church in Tehachapi. Rev. Ralph Jeffs officiated with interment in the Tehachapi cemetery following. She and John, her husband, had made their home here since 1945 and resided at 124 "K" Street. Mr. Egan is a cashier at the S. P. depot in Mojave and has been employed by the company since 1927. Mrs. Egan was born June 27, 1894 in Arkansaw (sic), and they had been residents of California since 1925, coming to Mojave from Bakersfield. Survivors besides her husband, John, are: one brother, James Bates of Base Lake, Calif.; three sisters, Frankie Tucker and Lois Lincoln of Bakersfield, and Hazel McCoy of Wasco. Rev. Ralph Coe of the Assembly of God Church in Mojave will officiate over the services which will be held. Thursday, October. 27 in the O'Donnell Funeral Home Chapel in Mojave. P. depot since 1941, passed away after a lengthy illness. He entered the hospital just a few weeks after his wife died last November. Mr. Egan has first worked in Mojave in 1927 and was later Postmaster at Owenyo from 1933 to 1938. He returned to railroad work in Bakersfield and later transferred to Mojave where he worked continuously until his untimely passing. We were unable to learn of any survivors and apparently he had no children. Funeral services were held in Bakersfield, Saturday, May 12th with interment in Union Cemetery in that city.
