He was born on Oct. 8, 1920, in Glendale. Mr. Dresser graduated from South Pasadena High School and received a bachelor of science degree in forestry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1942. He was commissioned an ensign in the Naval Reserve in November 1942; he served aboard the destroyer USS Flusser during campaigns in the South Pacific. Following the end of the war he began his long career with the U.S. Forest Service, ending his service in 1980 as supervisor of the Angeles National Forest, with headquarters in Pasadena. In recognition of his contributions to the forest service, Dresser Peak in the Angeles National Forest was named in his honor. His wife of 58 years, the former Dorothy Heiss, predeceased him in 2000. They enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement together in Bear Valley Springs. He is survived by his sons, William Donald, Charles and Richard; nine grandchildren and his brothers, John and Duane. A memorial service was held Sunday, June 12, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2216 17th Street, Bakersfield. Now, Lake Isabella (?) is over where the jail used to be? Is Lake Isabella where a town used to be? My Reply: Old Kernville is now under Lake Isabella. Again your queried: And if so, when did they make the lake? It might help me start building a timeline. My reply: The Lake was created in 1953. There is a 'New' Kernville thriving on the banks of Lake Isabella now. Sometimes, though, you can still visit the old foundations of the 'old' Kernville buildings if the water level is low enough. The Round Valley in this article was apparently in Inyo Co. BUT, my husband told me that he remembers hearing a story that Albert got put in jail in the town of Kern for this. Now, Lake Isabella (?) is over where the jail used to be? I believe this happened more than once in Kern Co. Is Lake Isabella where a town used to be? And if so, when did they make the lake? It might help me start building a timeline. Thanks so much! Sorry for the confusion.

The town in Mendocino County is Covelo and is right on the edge of an Indian Reservation. Does this newspaper article have a date that you can see? Why do you think that it was published during prohibition? Owning a still is still illegal! There were still some in use in Covelo on the Reservation in the 1960s when I lived there. Sharon Kern Co. He carried it around for years! I would love to get a copy of the paper in which it appeared, but it is a mystery to me. It was probably done during the prohibition, because it is about an illegal still. It reads: HELD FOR TRIAL Albert E. Garris and Joe Wells, the lattter an Indian, were arrested in Round Valley December 27th by Sheriff Hutchison, Deputy Sherriff Horton and District Attorney Guthrie, for possessing a still, which is said to hav been in full operation when the officers appeared. They were brought before Justice R.L. Patterson yesterday, wiaved examination and were committed for trial in the Superior Court. Garris under $1000.00 bond and Wells under $200.00. Any help to figure out what newspaper carried this and about what time frame would be most helpful. Thank you.

Thanks so very much again for all of this help. Amazing that you happen to have it at your finger tips.
