O'NEIL 1948-2005 Ridgecrest resident Daniel L. O'Neil passed away Tuesday May 24, 2005 at West Los Angeles Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 56. A graveside service will be held Saturday June 18 at 10 am at Desert Memorial Park. Pastor Jim Walden of the Community of Christ Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at Desert Memorial Park. Mr. O'Neil was born Sept. 11, 1948 in Los Angeles. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1967 to 1973 and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was employed as a paper carrier by The News Review and was active with the Community of Christ Church. He is survived by his mother, Barbara O'Neil of Ridgecrest, his ex-wife Carmen O'Neil of Los Angeles, daughter Wendy O'Neil of Los Angeles, brother Don O'Neil of Burbank, sister Peggy O'Neil of Idaho and two grandchildren. He was 82. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday June 18 at 1:30 pm at the Church of the Nazarene, 571 N. Norma St. Mr. Slaton was born Jan. 4,1923 in Branson, Mo. He attended Oak Grove School, a one-room schoolhouse through 8th grade. After school he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and Boeing before he was drafted into the Army Air Corp in 1943. He proudly served his country during World War II as a Corporal in England. At the close of the war he was discharged and married the love of his life Ivol Taves in December 19745. He began his civil service career in Hawthorne, Nev. as an ordnance man, which eventually brought him to China Lake in 1955. He was promoted to ordnance man leader. He retired from Federal Service in 1978. He was a member of the 96th Bomb Group Association. During his retirement years he enjoyed social functions at church and around the community, traveling the country and world with Ivol and friends from church and playing Santa Claus for his granddaughter. He served his church as an usher and treasurer for the senior citizens. Although the accomplishment he is most proud of is his family. He will be remembered by his community as a good neighbor and a proud, patriotic American, by his church as a faithful servant and by his family as an excellent provider, an honest man and a man of integrity. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Edmond and Gertie Slaton, sister Mildred, brother Troy, children Dave and Baby Mae and wife Ivol Slaton. He is survived by a daughter Nancy Jenkins, granddaughter Jennifer Jenkins, son-in-law Larry Jenkins, brothers David and Don Slaton and many nephews, nieces and cousins. A Gathering of Friends memorial service is planned for Wednesday June 29 at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church, 639 N. Norma St. Ellen was a longtime member. Ellen was born Sept. 5, 1906 in Shelbyville, Mo. After residing in Albuquerque, N.M. and Woodlawn Hills, Calif. she had made her home in Ridgecrest since 1988. Ellen was a teacher at the Indian School in Albuquerque. She retired in 1967 after teaching for 35 years. In addition she enjoyed sewing, embroidery and needlepoint. Ellen is survived by her sister Edith Bachand of Ridgecrest, niece Freda Beth Humble and husband Lee of Ridgecrest, niece Ann Knight of Bakersfield, nephew Larry Schatz of Forida and numejrous other nephews and nieces. She was 87. Funeral services were held June 4 at the Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery Chapel with Father Michael Polosky officiating. Mrs. Dragovich was born May 23, 1918 in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Tekla Sokolowsky Kraynyk. She worked at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, from 1953 to 1973. While at China Lake she belonged to the Ceramics Club and the Naval Center's bowling league. She finished her career working for the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA) in Santa Monica as an accounting analyst. She later moved to Chico where she worked part time at the Elks Club and did volunteer tax preparation for the elderly. In 1990 she moved to Yuba City to be closer to her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers John Kraynyk, and infant brothers Michael, Nicholas and Martine, three sisters Catherine Moros, Mary Hausehaulter and Tillie Medianowsky. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law John and Cynthia Dragovich of Yuba City, two grandchildren Dionne Del Carlo and Darren Dragovich, two great-grandchildren, two brothers Peter Kraynyk of Moon Township and Michael Kraynyk of California, three sisters Ann Wuycik of Ambridge, Stella Cox of California and Rose McCarthy of Mount Lebanon. She had lived in Reno, Nev. prior to moving to Ridgecrest 19 years ago. She worked as a grocery checker for Albertson's Market until her retirement. She was married to her husband Charles for 49 years and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was active in her church, Family Bible Church, and helped wherever necessary. Cremation will be private. Marie was born Sept. 11, 1936 in Lawndale, Calif. She was an excutive secretary. She was a Ridgecrest resident since 1988 and a resident of Hawthorne previously. Marie was executive secretary at the Carriage Inn for a number of years and Secretary/Treasurer with GEBA for the past eight years. Marie was a very active member and Board Member of the Friends of the Fair for over 14 years. A former Campfire Girl Leader, Marie continued to enjoy volunteering throughout the community with different organizations. Her many hobbies included caring for personal ets and a variety of animals, hiking, camping and gem and mineral collecting. She truley enjoyed spending time with family. She is survived by her husband Norman A. Her many hobbies including caring for pets and a variety of other animals, hiking, camping and gem and mineral collecting. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband Norman A. Webb of Ridgecrest, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Linda Edwards, brother and sister-in-law Mark and Nancy Edwards, sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and Jim Doersam, her special nephew Jim Doersam II, her adopted son Richard Howell, numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend, her dog Sunny. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Private cremation and arrangements were provided by Holland & Lyons Mortuary.

Kern County Sheriff Department's Search and Rescue group was called in. They found Dewey, deceased, about 10 pm and removed him from the lake. The case was ruled an accidental drowning by the Kern County Corner.
