Thanks to both of you who have responded to my message. Until today I was only guessing what he was doing or where he was living based upon memories of older family rememberances. Now that I know he was there in 1910 I can proceed. Would there be records of "partners" in the legal records of Kern Co.? Sales of Wells, Applications for licenses, Deeds, Abstracts, etc.? Any ideas for additional research? Did he own property in Kern Co.? Marriage records Another tale was that a WW1 soldier had seen Sam Sapp leaving a Troop Ship in Valdavostok, Russia. This person said that he was going onboard the ship and Sam was going off the ship on the down gangway.????? He hailed Sam Sapp with a loud Hay Sam! Sam stopped waved and acknowledge the hail. This person was from the same small town of Newberry, Fl. and had known him prior to him leaving for California. They had a very brief conversation between the gangways as the troops were embarking as a group and the officers in charge of the embarking soldiers made this soldier "move along". The soldier thought that Sam might have been in the Merchant Marine service or the Navy, my communcant did not know which. This would have been about 1917-18. I find no enumeration of him in either the 1920 or 1930 census nor any listing in the CA Death Index (1905-2000). The CA Death Index was created by the state of CA from the death certificates issued throughout the state. Obituaries prior to 1980 are not indexed here in Kern Co., so searching for an obit on him just isn't possible without a definite date of death. It would appear that Sam did not die in Calif. Hello All: I don't know if this will clear our Mother board, or if this should be printed. However; There is a lady, from Missouri, who is researching the Kern County, local family of Albitre. Specifically the Woody, California clan of Remick and Dorothy. After she posted on CAKern-L it was recommended that she contact the local living family. She finally did, and spoke with the daughter of Remick, Nancy. According to Nancy, this lady, has all the facts, information, dates and times and things at issue completely wrong, so much so that Nancy hung up on the caller. It's not important to publicize the name of this person, unless someone else is working the family line and in that case I will be most happy to share more upon request.
