AYERS 1932-2005 Longtime Ridgecrest resident George F. Ayers passed away Monday June 20, 2005. He brought his family to Ridgecrest in 1967 and called it home until his death. He was 72. The family plans a private memorial later this summer. Mr. Ayers was born Aug. 14, 1932 in Newport News, VA. Eventually moving to California he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco where he was voted most loyal by his classmates. At his graduation he received the loudest applause because of his geniune kindness and football career. Upon moving to Ridgecrest in 1967 he became manager of Sears Roebuck Catalog Store and eventually became the district manager until he retired in 1988 after 38 years of service. His family will remember him as a hard-working, honest man, who loved his family, his country and his garden. He was 71 years of age. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 50 years, Nellie; sons, Donald (Denise) of Boron, Ronald (Debbie) of Stockton, Darryl of Houston, Texas, and David of Boron; brother Donald (Dorthy) Rodden and sister Betty Motte of Boron; grandchildren, Randy, Darryl Leanna, Michael, Tiffany, Jackie and Daniel Rodden. He was uncle to many nieces and nephews and brother and sister-in-laws who were so proud to call him "brother." Gene worked at the Borax mines for 45 years and was one of the first 20 Mule Team mules there and served in the Marines with a tour of duty in Korea. He belonged to the Boron VFW and worked with the little league in Boron during the time his sons played. Gene also liked to travel, fish, play cards with his friends and family, watch TV and take an occasional trip to State Line, Nevada. Graveside services were held on June 29th at the Mojave public cemetery with Reverend Mason Pulaski of the Boron Assembly of God Church officiating. A pleasure to know, With a heart so dear. The kind of man you liked to be near. We loved him so, his tender way. We'll miss his presence each and every day. She was 62. At her request there will be no services but donations in her memory may be made to one's favorite charity. Ms. Delvich was born June 10, 1943 in Baltimore, Md. She graduated from Winter Park (Fla.) High School in 1962. She first took up residency in the Ridgecrest area in the late 1960s as a data technician for Stencel Aero Engineering on the EA-6B Escape System SNORT test project at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake. It was then she developed her lifelong love of fishing and camping in the mountains and deserts of California. In the 1970s she moved to Apopka, Fla. to support her parent's agricultural enterprises and to study nursing, becoming both a registered nurse and obtaining a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Central Florida in 1990. Along with managing the family business she put her skils to work in Florida's Migrant Workers Health Programs and aided UCF in setting up a nurse internship with the migrant health program, so that student nurses could experience working in the community before graduation. She held registered nurse licenses in both Florida and California. After a few years her love of the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains and the Bristlecone country called her to move back to California where she continued her medical and social services vocation including teaching at Cerro Coso Community College, nursing at Ridgecrest Community Hospital, the Indian Health Program in Lone Pine, the Ridgecrest Beverly Manor and assisting the handicapped clients of the non-profit DART organization. Her contributions to these communities and organizations will be sorely missed. She was preceded in death by her mother Cora Delvich, and grandparents Anna and William Delvich and Cora and Hugh Mathaney. She also assisted handicapped clients of Desert Area Resources and Training. Lynne's contributions to these communities and organziations will be sorely missed. She is survived by her father Raymond, her sister Bonnie and a niece and nephew. She was preceded in death by her mother Cora Delvich and grandparents Anna and William Delvich and Cora and Hugh Mathaney. At Lynne's requests there will be no services.
