    1. [CAKERN] What's Happening at the Southern California Genealogical Society
    2. Paula Hinkel
    3. Have you heard.... After an 18 month absence, Reggie the Alligator has resurfaced in Lake Machado here in Los Angeles. I'm not sure the reptile experts will agree, but I think the "Dancing Gator" from our Zydeco La-La Dance just might have lured Reggie out of retirement!! JAMBOREE registration is very strong but we still have room for you! There are tickets available for the Family History Writers Conference, the banquet, and the Saturday and Sunday breakfasts -- AND of course the Zydeco La-La Dance. JAMBOREE PARTICIPANTS - Later today we will be sending out confirmation notices. At the bottom of the confirmation email you will find an invitation to our pre-Jamboree Online Survey to gauge the level of interest in sessions to help with planning to minimize traffic jams. We hope that you will take a few minutes to help with a reality check on how the speakers' rooms have been assigned. Please set your spam filters to accept email from the SurveyConsole.com domain. JAMBOREE DEADLINE ALERT MAY 8 - If you are attending Jamboree and staying at the Marriott, be sure that you make your hotel reservations before May 8. The hotel has already extended the room block size several times. We expect that while they have accommodated our group size, which is nearly twice the size we originally anticipated (hurray!!), we expect that they will hold us to the May 8 cutoff date. Don't miss out on the discounted rate! Also, if you tried to make a reservation and were told that the discounted rooms were no longer available, please contact the hotel again and request the SCGS discounted room rate. Contact us at jamboree@scgsgenealogy.com if you encounter any problems making your reservation with the Marriott. HELP US GET THE WORD OUT. Has your genealogical research changed a life -- your life, or that of a cousin or someone you've found as a result of your search? We would like to feature your story in press releases and publicity for Jamboree. Please contact us at jamboree@scgsgenealogy.com if you are willing to share a story. Here's a quick rundown of the upcoming activities at the Southern California Genealogical Society and Family Research Library. For more information, check out our calendar at http://calendar.scgsgenealogy.com/View.html Our speaker for the Saturday, May 12 Lunch and Learn is Alice Fairhurst. She spent more than 30 years doing US, Canadian, Scottish, Irish, and English genealogy. She is presently the DNA Interest Group Chair and the co-chair of the SCGS DNA Project. Alice's presentation will cover: (1) Learning about the location where your name can be found in Scotland; (2) Identifying family or clan associations who may be able to help in your search; and (3) Seeking information from online and local sources for Scottish genealogy. The Library will be open for research following the lecture until 4:00 p.m. May 5 10am-4pm GSHA-SC Meeting 1:30pm The Master Genealogist Users Group May 6 11am Jamboree Meeting May 8 Writers Group (SCGS Members only) May 12 9am Jamboree Committee 12:00 noon - Lunch and Learn Alice Fairhurst - Scottish Research May 14 7pm-9pm Legacy Users Group May 17 Board of Directors meeting All members welcome May 19 1pm - 4pm German Interest Group May 20 1pm-3pm Writers Group (SCGS Members only) May 22 Cutoff for Pre-registration for Jamboree May 26 9am-11am Jamboree Committee SCGS at Simi Valley Cajun Creole Festival May 27 SCGS at Simi Valley Cajun Creole Festival 2pm-4pm Family Tree Maker Users Group June 2 9am-4pm Jamboree Goodie Bag Stuffing Party All Are Welcome!
