We were contacted by documentary film makers for a film called Google Me. The documentary follows Jim Killeen as he travels around the world meeting other Jim Killeens who turned up when Jim did a Google search on his name. Relative Genetics will be conducting DNA tests to see if any of the Jims are related, and a gaggle of Jim Killeens are meeting in Killeen, Texas (where else???) for a reunion, complete with chili cookoff and rodeo. The filmmakers will be at Jamboree on Sunday afternoon, during the lunch break, talking to participants of the Jamboree and Family History Writers Conference. This is great exposure for genealogy, for the Jamboree and for SCGS. Don't worry...if you don't want to appear on camera, you don't have to. To learn more about their documentary, go to www.googlemethemovie.com WHEW! That was a lot of news. Thanks for sticking with us on this one. All but the one for Ralph Griffin are for the family I am interested in. I had already found all of this information. I had most of it from the excellent notes that my grandmother (niece of Betty) had left before she died. I have Betty's obituary from an unknown newspaper in California, a memorial obituary from the service for Betty, a post card from her husband Vann to Pernie Cullum (brother of Betty and my great grandfather) showing a view of Hillcrest Memorial Park. I do want to find Betty's descendants, not only to document her family line, but also to share some old family photos that they may not have. My grandmother left behind a wonderful collection. I had looked up this information from the information in my grandmother's notes and collection. I should have mentioned that. I am very sorry. Thank you again for taking the time to try and help me. I went back to my records and found the obit that my graandmother got from Betty Mae (Cullum) Griffin's death. Only a few of the children stayed in California. When I checked for records for these children, their names are very common in California. Without additional information it is almost impossible for me to figure out which one's are the correct records. I looked for online obits (I live in Arkansas) and found none available. Donna, since you have a list of the children's names, I recommend checking the CADI (CA Death Index) to see if any of the children have died in the state of California, or check the SSDI (Social Security Death Index) for deaths that might have occurred outside the state of California, (or anywhere, including CA, since 1997). If you can identify a date and probable place of death, then you can then try to procure obituaries and hope to find names of the children's children. Do you have access to her MyFamily page? It's been a place to share, although some of the info hasn't been verified, and some of it I have questions about. But if we don't share, we'll never find the answers. Send me your email, and I will be happy to send what I have. Do you live in the Bakersfield area? That's where I was born and raised also. Haven't been back since my Granny passed away in 2003, but am hoping to make another research trip one day. I live in WA state now. Though I knew many of my Satterfield and Barker relatives, I'm sorry that I didn't know my Underwood 'cousins' better. My great-grandmother was Millie Mae Underwood, married to George W. Satterfield and I remember them very well. I have many pics of Millie and George an! d their family. I have posted some on Mary's site. Email me at pamalou17@netzero.net. I would love to have more thorough info on Larkin Underwood's family also. Once I know if you have access to Mary's site, I'll know better what to send you. Looking forward to hearing from you again. You are invited to add your family surnames to the Southern California Genealogical Society's Virtual Surname Wall. This feature will be unveiled at the 38th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree, June 8-10 in Burbank, CA. There is no charge for this service, and the offer is open to the public. We encourage you to forward this invitation to your cousins, genealogy-related email lists, society members, your genealogy acquaintences, or other family historians. Entries submitted by May 22 will be included in the 2007 Virtual Surname Wall at Jamboree; later submissions will be included in the a free-access online database. Although this project is being sponsored by the Southern California Genealogical Society, we welcome family information from any geographic area, not just California. You may submit up to 10 surnames. We plan to allow for more surnames to be added and will let you know when we are able to accept more names. Participants will be asked for the following information. You may wish to have your family group sheets, pedigree charts, or genealogy database available for reference. 1. Your family surnames (including spelling variations). 2. The geographic area in which they lived, or the migration path. 3. The associated period of time. Your participation in the Virtual Surname Wall project is completely voluntary. Surname Wall information will be maintained by SCGS and may be included in printed or a searchable free online database that would be accessible on the SCGS website at www.scgsgenealogy.com. Your participation in the project is your authorization to include your surname information in any printed or searchable online databases that may be developed. Of course, we have instituted steps to protect your privacy. Your contact information will not be displayed, either in print or online. You will have the option of asking SCGS to serve as intermediary, or authorizing SCGS to release your contact information should we receive an inquiry regarding a possible family connection. If you have questions at any time about the Virtual Surname Wall, please contact us at jamboree@scgsgenealogy.com. If you are attending Jamboree, be sure to stop by the Tech Zone to check out this new resource.
