It is sitting right beside the monument, maybe 6" away, sharing the space. While the Cain family considers it fitting for their family, it is very inappropriate to be placed right next to the Indianola monument. Those 1936 monuments are very special, and were placed all over the state at very honored places, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Texas. On top of the black slab bench, in big gold letters, it says IN HONOR OF ROLAND AND VIRGINIA CAIN BY RUSSELL AND CHERRE CAIN SHARON SMALLEY MARK AND BARBARA KOLODZIEJ ALAN AND TERESA CAIN The slab is about 6" thick, and on the side says CAIN. They even extended the 1936 Monument's concrete footing on one side for their bench. The Texas Historic Commission and the State of Texas have been notified, and I thought other Cains might like to know as well. Russell and Cherre Cain have a website: http://www.russellcain.com/newsite/office_portlavaca.php I took photos Saturday. If anyone wants a photo, please let me know.
