John Cain and his wife, Elizabeth, were my grgrgrandparents. My grgrandfather was their 4th child, Charles H. Cain, his son was Frances "Frank" Cain, his son, Elmer Cain (my father). I have limited information on John & Elizabeth after they moved to Illinois, but only their birth and marriage dates in VA. Have you ever located his parents? I've searched but nothing so far. I did find another John Cain who was also married to an Elizabeth, which only makes things more difficult. Somewhere I read that John Cain served in the Civil War, but there again, I have found several men with the same name from Illinois, so have no way of knowing which one is our ancestor. Any information you might have on John and Elizabeth in VA would be appreciated .Also, information passed down by word of mouth says that the name use to be McCain, the brothers had a disagreement and one kept the family name and the other went by "Cain".
