    1. [CAIN] Re: Wiley Cain, Cumberland, NC born abt 1823
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: CAIN, EDGE, STARLING, WEST, YOUNG, HAIR, HAYES, HALL, BRAMBLE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XOH.2ACIB/2154.1.1 Message Board Post: No, this CAIN family was white. Wiley CAIN served with CSA as a member of the 36th Regiment (2 Regiment of Artillery) at Fort Fisher. He was captured and sent to Elmira, New York and released after the civil war ended in 1865. He and his son both appear with their families in the 1870 & 1880 census of Cedar Creek, Cumberland, NC. I am not sure if "Wiley"was his original first name. His son and grandson, Thomas Wiley Cain and George Wiley Cain are both found in various records being referred to as Wiley Cain. The father of Wiley Cain may have been Robert Cain or he himself may have been Robert Cain. There is a reported death in Cross Creek of a Wiley Cain on 9 Sep 1925 whose father is given as Robert. I don't know which Wiley Cain died in 1925. What I know of this CAIN family is posted at my web site: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=butchrose
