    1. Re: Cain is a Scottish name
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cain Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/XOH.2ACIB/894.1374.1 Message Board Post: I can confirm this. A look into Irish families will show that the origins of Cain/Kaine/Kane/Keane and O'Cain/O'Kaine/tec. is the old Irish family O'Cahan, directly linked back to earliest Irish history to the first great king of Ireland, Neil. (For lots of info on this just do an internet search for 'O'Cahan' and a wealth of info will be found verifying the name variations, historical contexts, coats of arms and much more! (Sorry, but there are just too many links to include here). What some of this info will show is that this families descendants have connections with Scotland, England, Canada, USA. and further afield, I'm sure. My own Cain ancestor moved from Ireland to Scotland during early 1800s and there have been a few name variations just amongst the descendants of that single family since their original migration, many of which went further on to England and USA (though I'm still tracking down the Atlantic links)!
