Surnames: Cain Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XOH.2ACIB/894.1375.1 Message Board Post: Conni, Just saw your posting about the origins of the surname Cain. I think if you can find a copy of the book "The Ulster Clans" by T.H. Mullin & J. E. Mullan you would find that the name Cain (and it's many variations) has been around in the British Isles since about the 4th century. Most scholars seem to think the name started in Ireland. It has been on the Isle of Man since the very early 1500's and it migrated to Scotland about the 1100's. Some researchers have found the name in England as early as the 1400's. From the research that I have done over the years, I have found Cain's (and various spellings) in America since about the 1600's. Hope this is of some help to you. On the Cain DNA Website we have many different lines of Cain's in America and around the world who have tested. You can view the test results at: www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine Shirley
