My father in law, Harry B. Arthur, was from Americus, GA, so I don't think there is any connection. My Cains, however, were in the area of Hampshire, Shenandoah Counties in VA. I think they were in what is now WV. They were in Ohio by about 1840, if not before. My direct line is to John Cain, b. abt 1819 in VA. He migrated to Highland County, OH, married Orpha Beavers who died in the late 1840's. He then married Elizabeth Shinn in Dubuque, IA. I am sure her family was from what is now WV. John Cain's brothers were: George W. Cain and Absalom Cain, all originally shoemakers, who migrated eventually to Iowa. John Cain died in Missouri after 1880...perhaps near St. Louis. How I wish I could find something on them in VA. Judy Arthur
