I have a John Cain in Highland County, Ohio. He was born about 1819 in the Shenandoah region of Virginia. He was married to Orpha Beavers in Highland County and after she died in 1849, he removed to Dubuque, Iowa and was there in the 1850 census. He married Elizabeth Shinn in 1850 and they had 11 children. His first marriage produced two living children, Absalom and Mary Lenora and Thomas who died as an infant. He was a shoemaker. John Cain had two brothers--George Washington Cain and Absalom Cain. They also were in Dubuque, Iowa. The mother of these three sons, was Susan S. Cain who was born in PA and died in Dubuque.
