My estimate is that the George Cain (son of Martin Cain & Mary (Polly) Shirley) was born about 1854. This would make him to young to be the George you refer to in the 1850 census as having children. There is a good chance these two Cain lines are linked but I don't know where. Thanks for your response and if you ever do find a tie, please let me know.
