I don't have my genealogy stuff here at my daughter's house, but Luda Maude was my husband's grandmother. We had been doing research before my husband passed away in 1985 (James Darrell Cornelius); and I continue now to continue the search. I have a lot of info. KY, you may want to attend the Estill County Backporch Homecoming. This year it will be held July 26th through July 29th, 2006 in at the Estill County History Center & Library. The link for more info is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyestill/ . There is a link for registration right on the front page of the site. This will be my 5th year attending and each year I find new info. Everyone associated with the History Center and Library is knowledgeable, and more than willing to help you find your ancestors. This is a great opportunity to meet with people you may have chatted with online about your ancestors. Last year they had about 130 people stop in during the homecoming and 850 from 27 different states throughout the year. So, the chance of finding someone researching your family line is strong. Everyone signs in and lists the family they are searching for so you may find a good address for someone researching the same lines. They have many written resources, census records, family records, and other publications, etc. for Estill and surrounding counties. One personal example I have is that I had the directions to an old family cemetery, but I had never been. I gave the directions to someone from Louisiana who attended the Backporch Homecoming and he went to the cemetery. The next year he took me to the cemetery, and we have developed a great working partnership in our quest for family history. We are both from the same lines, way way back. You never know who you will meet or what you will find out. So, if you've got vacation time or even a day off, think about coming to the Homecoming and supporting the History Center in Estill County. SURNAMES THAT I AM RESEARCHING INCLUDE: Alcorn, Baker, Barker, Burns, Cain, Coyle, Cotton, Dietz, Gabbard, Gum, Horn, Lamb, Logsdon, Murray, McCreary, Powell, Quick, Rose, Richardson, Still, Winkler, White, Walton, Warford, and Woodyard (among others). Thanks, Vickie

He married Elizabeth ___ and is listed in Iowa census records for 1860 - 1870 and 1880. Who were his parents and siblings? In the 1860 IA, Marion County, Dallas Twp. he lives "on the same page" as George W. DILL (b. 1824 IN) whom I believe to be somehow related. Would someone know how these possible cousins are connected? I believe there are CAIN - DILL links over the generations. I'd be grateful for even the smallest of clues.

A young girl named Lucy Cain, daughter of John D. Cane, who managed the Point Clear Hotel on Mobile Bay, Alabama, near Mobile, was supposedly killed by a cannon shot from a union gunboat at the very end of the war. I cannot find anything about either of them, other than the attached. On Thursday morning I am giving a speech on this subject at breakfast. Any help you can give on what ever happened to either of them, I would appreciate. This e-mail message is from: David A. Surnames: Cain Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XOH.2ACIB/894.1375.1 Message Board Post: Conni, Just saw your posting about the origins of the surname Cain. I think if you can find a copy of the book "The Ulster Clans" by T.H. Mullin & J. E. Mullan you would find that the name Cain (and it's many variations) has been around in the British Isles since about the 4th century. Most scholars seem to think the name started in Ireland. It has been on the Isle of Man since the very early 1500's and it migrated to Scotland about the 1100's. Some researchers have found the name in England as early as the 1400's. From the research that I have done over the years, I have found Cain's (and various spellings) in America since about the 1600's. Hope this is of some help to you. On the Cain DNA Website we have many different lines of Cain's in America and around the world who have tested. You can view the test results at: www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine Shirley
