I hope this still helps you. I am descended from Smith W. Cain from Russell/Pulaksi Co. I believe he stayed in Kentucky to raise his family. His wife was Emily Ann Nelson. Some of his children were Milford, Achilles, Martha Ellen. I do not believe there was a Daniel. So I would say that you need the Smith Cain from Jefferson Co. I'm sorry that I don't have any more information on that Smith Cain. I hope this helps you. Shannon Hayes

We believe Mamie to be her first name; at one time my grandfather thought it to be MARY (when he named my mother) but was later told otherwise). She married GEORGE WILLIAM STRICKLAND (Son of William F. & Julia Core(Coor) of Sampson County. My grandfather - WILLIAM BRASCO STRICKLAND was her only child, and she died early 1904 shortly after he was born (12--07-1903.) She may have died of pnuemonia or Cholera. (There was an epidemic at the time). We know she had a brother JESSE LEE who had a son named YOUNG LEE. It is belived that Young Lee settled in Cumberland County, NC. and may have married - Estelle (?). Any info is appreciated. II have searched long & hard and most family info is lost due to my Great grandfathers second wife Alda not allowing her name or history ever to be mentioned. Anything I can find- no matter how insignificant will be helpful. My grandfather was told that Mamie was at least 1/2 CHEROKEE. Please contact me at: [email protected] or [email protected] Thanks! ALL THE WAY FROM 1820 THROUGH THE 1850-60 TIME FRAME. ALL OF THESE FAMILIES THRIVED BY BEING HUNTER AND FISHERMEN AND WERE NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO THE CENSUS TAKER. (ESPECIALLY IF THEY SAW THE CENSUS TAKER FIRST.) THERE ARE SEVERAL MARRIAGE AND DIFFERENT RECORDS, BUT SORTING THEM IS A TASK, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T STAY IN ONE PLACE LONG.
This family is enumerated in the 1850 census of the Eastern Division of Cumberland county, NC. Catherine CAIN age 49 Somantha " age 35 Sophia " age 17 Richardson " age 15 James " age 14 Costin(??) " age 10 (male) Caroline " age 10 Susannah " age 75 Does anyone have linkage to or further knowledge of this family? >From the ages of Mrs. Catherine CAIN (born ca 1801) and her last two children, I think she may be the wife of William Cain and they the parents of Robert "Wiley"Cain, who by now is married and living nearer to his wife's STARLING family in the same Eastern Division of Cumberland county. I want to prove or disprove that hypothesis. Assuming for the moment that proves true, does anyone have further info on the supposed mother-in-law, Mrs. Susannah CAIN ( born ca 1775) and which CAIN was her husband?
