I was given 5 April 1844 as their date of marriage, in Fauquier Co., VA. This date looks fairly correct, as their first child, Penolope Ann Cain was born 1845 in VA. They had another daughter, Mary Ellen and two sons, James and Charles, who were born in Va before their move to Illinois. Charles was my great grandfather, born in 1852. After their move to Illinois, they settled in Edgar Co., had 7 more children. Both John and Elizabeth died in Edgar Co. IL. It appears there are two families of John and Elizabeth Cain floating around who left Virginia and went to Illinois. I am looking for information of John Cain's parents. Alice Cain Nance
To Candace Gregory I have only 13 children for James Oscar Cain Jr. and Elizabeth. My name is Tommy Garrigan and my wife is from the William Cain -Miss Hollis, James W. (Bose) Cain- Eleanor Carr Line. If you do not mind sharing information please contact.
Looking to hear from anyone having CAIN/KANE ancestors migrate to the Boston area in the middle 1800s. I have seen both spellings but the name ended up as KANE. -Tom in MA

I only have 14 children for James Oscar and Elizabeth and am curious who I am missing. I am out of his son, William. Which child are you out of? -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: Sunday, May 26, 2002 01:31:55 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [CAIN] James Oscar Cain and Elizabeth McCauley. This message was returned from harrimancoserv.net . So I am sending to the list, in case Harriman has changed addresses in the last few days. I am doing some research on a Cain line for my son-in-laws family. I would like to know how you are related to James Oscar Cain and Elizabeth [purportedly McCauley]. I will be glad to share any info that I have. I have a list of 15 children of James and Eliz. Nothing before James and Liz. But a bit of census work in Alabama, Walker County etc. If you think that I may be able to help, let me know. I am happy to share what I have - though it isn't very much. I have hit a dead-end on who the parents of my gg-grandfather, James Alexander Cain werre. He was born in KY (county unknown) in 1823. Married 28 Jun 1846 in Morgan, MO, and died 17 Feb 1887 in Tulare,Tulare Co., CA. Buried Tulare cemetery. He married Mary Jane Williams, born 1 Jun 1826 and died 28 Feb 1912 in Sanger, Fresno County, CA. On Ancestry.com I found that his father's name was Alexander Cain - but I have not been able to verify this with any documentation. James and Mary Jane's children's name were: Henry S. (1846) MO; Jiles Lee (1849) MO (my g-grandfather); John Dixon (1851) ARK; James Alexander (1856) ARK; Joseph (1858) ARK; Samuel R. (1859-60) CO; Mary Jane (1862) CO; Martha E. (1864) CO; and Nancy Ellen (1866) MT. They were in Tulare County, CA when the 1870 census was enumerated. 1880 Tulare County census states both parents were born in SC. I would appreciate any documented information regarding who the parents of James Alexander Cain were. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 27, 2002 9:32 AM Subject: [CAIN] Re: cain family/North Carolina > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XOH.2ACIB/429.1203.1235.1238.1295.1 296.1298.1308.1310.1313.1378.1381.1530.1532.1535 > > Message Board Post: > > Many searching the hills and valleys of North Carolina for Cain ancestors.
