Our Cain group, came there about the time frame yours was born. Ours had some info written in a Cain-Robertson book. The name spellings could vary as they so often seemed to. Robertson and Robinson could be connected? What info lead you to Howard Co.? John Cain, Born 1773, Surry Co. North Carolina, moved to Madison Co. Ky., then to Howard Co. Mo. His Mother, Celia Steelman Cain was with the travelers. She is buried there. There is some confusion as to who the husband of Celia Steelman Cain was, given as Thomas Cain. So far nothing found as to his parentage. She seemed to be a widow .We know about John. Their were older brothers, Benjamin and Daniel. Benjamin, we have Rebecca Stanfield, wife. Children and their destinations not completely known. Daniel is pretty well documented. There is some thought that the Husband of Celia, had been married previously, with other children. These are not known to us. Many questions still unans! wered.

My Michael married Joan Nester - I have no other information about the couple, except their children, of which they had 12. The first of which, Margaret Helen/Ellen Cain/Cane was b. 1865. Other children were: Jim, Bill, Bernard, Mike, Tom, Ed, Jack, Nan., Cakey?, and Jonny. Margaret Cain married Wilfred Mercier of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, b. 1868. They had two children, C.E. (Charles Edwin) and Helen Margaret. C.E. married Edna Welch, also of Detroit, Michigan, and they had 9 children, Anne, Mary, Susan, Lawrence, Peter, Margaret, Craig and Michael. (Susan is my mother-in-law) We have lost touch with all Mercier cousins of Wilfred's generation because of some long-forgotten family rift. Would love to re-establish family ties and research the Mercier name back to Canada. And more relevant to this list, would also love to find ANY information regarding Michael Cain and Joan Nester. Thanks - Catherine --------------- I have a Michael Cain b. 1845 in or around Franksville Ont. Migrated with his family to Michigan about 1853...one sibling that I'm aware of is John Francis Cain who went back to Canada at some point. Could be siblings of your James William (or not). Parents listed variously as Michael Patrick or Patrick Michael and mother as Agnes Mary or Mary Agnes Meshaw (Macha). My Michael had brothers John, Cornelius, Alexander and a sister Mary listed in his obit in 1910...No James. Sorry, but if you see any connection, let me know.

Does anyone have any info on this family? this is an outside chance because we have no records of anyone with the above names. My reasons for inquiring further is that there are two rumors in our family: 1) some of my grandfather's relations lived in west Tennessee, and 2) somewhere in the lineage is Indian blood. However, the only records for my family found so far places them in central Kentucky with the possible name of ggfather "Wilkerson" Cain. His son was Joseph Carter. If related, they would have been cousins. Any Wilkerson in your line?

John Cain and his wife, Elizabeth, were my grgrgrandparents. My grgrandfather was their 4th child, Charles H. Cain, his son was Frances "Frank" Cain, his son, Elmer Cain (my father). I have limited information on John & Elizabeth after they moved to Illinois, but only their birth and marriage dates in VA. Have you ever located his parents? I've searched but nothing so far. I did find another John Cain who was also married to an Elizabeth, which only makes things more difficult. Somewhere I read that John Cain served in the Civil War, but there again, I have found several men with the same name from Illinois, so have no way of knowing which one is our ancestor. Any information you might have on John and Elizabeth in VA would be appreciated .Also, information passed down by word of mouth says that the name use to be McCain, the brothers had a disagreement and one kept the family name and the other went by "Cain". Have you all ever heard this? Alice Cain Nance

Mary Adams and John Cain published intentions to marry on 18 Aug 1770 in Wells, York, Maine, stating their were both of Wells. They subsequently had two children: Sarah, bpt. 8 Sep 1771, and John, bpt. 18 Jul 1773. John Cain, Sr. died 21 Aug 1816, aged 67, thus born c. 1749. Mary died 30 Oct 1834, aged 88, thus born c. 1746. I believe John Cain is possibly the grandson of Nicholas Cane of York, York, Maine. Does anyone have additional information regarding the parents of either Mary Adams or John Cain? Thank you.
