Married to Della Robertson. Settled in Carlisle County, KY. Father's name is Jim from KY. Mother unknown. Ike and Della have three children: Minnie, Laura and Roddy. George Washington Moss b. 7/4/1833 in Warren County, NC married to Evaline Giles. 13 children. Of the thirteen, John Morgan (b. 1863) and James Malcom (b. 1870) married Ike's two daughters, Minnie and Laura. The two families lived nearby according the 1880 census. If I knew more of Isaac's lineage, maybe our families could connect but I'm a dead end with Ike so far. Maybe all of similar names are a coincidence. I don't see any connection yet.
I have a John Cain in Highland County, Ohio. He was born about 1819 in the Shenandoah region of Virginia. He was married to Orpha Beavers in Highland County and after she died in 1849, he removed to Dubuque, Iowa and was there in the 1850 census. He married Elizabeth Shinn in 1850 and they had 11 children. His first marriage produced two living children, Absalom and Mary Lenora and Thomas who died as an infant. He was a shoemaker. John Cain had two brothers--George Washington Cain and Absalom Cain. They also were in Dubuque, Iowa. The mother of these three sons, was Susan S. Cain who was born in PA and died in Dubuque. Maybe there is is some relationship here with your George Wasington Cain and John Francis Newton Cain and my Geroge and Isaac. Our Isaac Kane/Cain born ca 1796 in S.C. married Elizabeth Carson 6 March 1812, Grand's Lick, Campbell Co. Ky. The name Moss is particuarly interesting to me as I find in twice in two of Isaac & Elizabeths children (they had 9 or 10 babes): Isaac Kane/Cain is my brick wall. If you can connect I have more information. 1. Agnes Jane Kane/Cain born 1814 Plum Creek, Ky m. She died 12 Feb 1887 in Demossville, Pendleton Co. Ky. 7 children laid to rest on Daniels Farm Campbell Co. "Note: Phillip Hoffman received a land grant in Campbell Co KY." 3. He was officially lited as Missing in action or buried at sea. His name is honored on the "Tablets of the Missing" at Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. These references were located in the Indiana State Library World War II database. Unfortunately we do not hae access to the microfilm here in the Philippines and would appreciate any help we could find. References: Indianapolis Star December 31, 1942 Page 9, Column 4 Indianapolis Star January 20, 1943 Missing in Action Page 9, Column 5 We also welcome any information that would lead us to find the family of this Indiana hero. Hello, I am a retired American residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. A year ago we visited the memorial as visitors but came home with a mission in our hearts. As we gazed over the beautifully manicured acres and the 17,202 American graves, it was obvious only a few families had ever visited their graves. I stepped into the soft grass and focused my camera on one of the white crosses, a grave of an Ohio soldier. A strange calmness was in the air as I walked a few more steps and a cross of an Indiana soldier lay square in my path. The letters of the inscription on the marker was bolder than ever, here lay a soldier from my home state. At that moment a quiet brainstorm aroused my humble thoughts. I wondered if I could locate any of the families of these men. My stride became more defined and within a few moments I had located and photographed eight more graves. Since those gut-wrenching but touching moments we have energized our efforts in finding the families of these American men from Indiana. We have located well over 100 and have delivered the FREE photographs to them via email. Please visit our website and see the men we have honored and the families we have assisted in finding a more genuine closure of a horrible tragedy. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ Our success in finding the families was the result of journalists, amateur genealogists, historians, historical societies, librarians and lots of wonderful Hoosiers and those with Indiana ties across America. During our search we have also reached families from other states as well and have filled special requests for photos from the Manila American Cemetery. We presently have photographed only the graves of the Indiana soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen; however we have photographed all of the names that are engraved on the "Tablets of the Missing". We offer them free of charge to anyone who asks. We ask for your help in finding their families. We understand this is a genealogy board but we do not need immediate genealogy in that form, we need leads to find the families. Please become one of our special volunteers today and find the family of an Indiana serviceman from near your home. A list of the men from your Indiana county is available, free and all you must do is request it. Dave and Apple Dwiggins San Pablo City, Philippines
