You see, I have seen the family Bible. I won't say anymore about it because some years ago someone tried to steal it from the home of a Knight. There is also a letter that talkes about different relatives written about 1839. That was well before Daniel's death and it is from a sister in North Carolina. I only traced it myself from the Quaker Books in Guliford Co., NC as in reference to the marriage of Samuel Knight to Hannah Cain, the daughter of Daniel and Susanna Cain. It was mentioned that the Cain family were Menonitte but that Samuel and Hannah were married in "unity". This brings to mind the case settled a few weeks ago. The man was convicted on one hair that was found. And he was relaeased when it was found that there were more hairs on his head that had different DNA. Looks like it may upset the whole apple cart. I'm afraid that the information that was given to the DAR is incorrect. Through DNA testing we have been able to prove that the Daniel Cain line that was in Greene County, Ohio is the same Daniel Cain from North Carolina. My line is through Nicholas Cain in VA. Daniel was his son and they moved into what is now WV. But no actual records can be found where they moved to when they left Harrison County, VA. Another lady that I have corresponded with for several years, had her cousin do a DNA test and it was compared to my uncle's and there is NO close match at all. According to the test results we have not been related in the last 800 years. The lady who submitted this information was Mrs. Idell Snodgrass, but I'm afraid that it wasn't documented well enough. She is gone now, but the information is still floating around out there. If you would like to contact me personally, I can put you in ! touch with the lady who has the documentation that shows the Daniel Cain in Greene County Ohio was actually from Guilford County, NC. My email address is: sjcainevans@hotmail.co. Regards, Shirley

It's been a little hectic around here. My Cain family is through the Nicholas Cain line in the Shenandoah Valley whose children migrated West from there. In the Ohio Valley of what is now WV, there were at least 3 different Cain lines. You mentioned a Walter Cain who married Elizabeth Wilson. There is a Richard Cain who married an Elizabeth Martin who lived in Monongahalia County, VA in the late 1700's & early 1800's. I have a great deal of info on this line. There was also a Walter Cain line that lived in Brooke County, VA & Jefferson County, OH. They are across the Ohio River from one another. I have some information about them too. Can you tell me a little more about your Walter Cain? There are several Walter Cain's in that area. I think this line may have come from NJ. Because there is a large Cain gathering there in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Shirley

Their children were born in Bruton Twp., York Co., VA. Do you have Margaret on your trees? Could she be a sister of Thomas J. Cain? Odd that the name "Cornelia " shows up in the names of both of their children?

I follow Daniel Cain who fought in the Rev. War for North Carolina. He married Susannah Custer, she would become 2ed cousin to George Armstrong Custer. Susannah died in 1824 in Ohio and Daniel lived till 1851 at the ripe old age of 103. There are an awful lot of Cain's that is for sure. The only way I really sorted mine out from the others is the DAR. And the fact that a whole lot of the children that followed him to Ohio died in a Colora Epidemic. They buried a lot of them in mass graves but kept records in a Baptist church for who they buried. I do believe mine were Menonites though. Linda

My info is that there was a Cornelius Cain (1773-1850) who first married Margaret Sleeth (chn: Alexander, Mary"Polly" and Wallace S.). That Cornelius then married Sarah Hyatt and they had a son -- named Cornelius. The father Cornelius descended from Daniel Cain and Susanna(h) Custer. Daniel's father was Nicholas Cain who married Catherine (Catrina) Amnn (Mohn).
