I list him as born in Ockley, Indiana in 1901. I am wondering if he is related to Cora Viola Cain. I found a World War I draft registration with his name and Cora's on it. My grandfather had numerous children. Lottie was one. Others were Mary (my mother), Hazel, Paul, Walter, and Berdenia. His wife was Ruth. Could we be tracing the same person. Barb

Greetings: I am attempting to help Ralph Norman who is 90 years old (God bless him) find out any information on his family. If any of the below looks familiar to you or you can help please let me know. Regards, Deborah Toledo, Ohio Ralph and Drew, This is what I have found so far on Ralph's family, digging through U.S. census records. I believe that Ralph's mothers maiden name was "Cain" and found a little on them also. Do I know that all this information is his family for a FACT, no I do not, that will be up to Ralph to decide and verify. The Cornelius Cain who married Sarah Hyatt is not thought to be the son of Nicholas Cain. The Hyatt family has done extensive research and they feel he is from another line of Cains. We are hoping to find a male member of this family who would be willing to do a DNA test for us to prove one way or another about this. The Cornelius Cain who married Margaret Sleethe was the son of Daniel Cain & Susannah Custer. They lived in Gilmer County, WV and there is a descendant who is being tested right now with Family Tree DNA and we are awaiting his test results. In the Gilmer County courthouse, I found no other marriages for this Cornelius, unless he married in another county. Hope this helps clear things up a bit. Shirley

Some seem to think that the Cain's came from the Isle of Man and others say they came from England. Maybe over the years people have gone to the English side because most people don't know where the Isle of Man is. It's in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland. It's almost the same distance from Wales and parts of Scotland. I have been doing a great deal of research lately about the Isle of Man and there have been Cain's there since about the very early 1500's. Many left the island and moved to Liverpool for work. With the DNA testing that is being done, it's a pretty good bet that the Cain name was originally from Northern Ireland. But there may have been people who left very early on and carried the name over to England. But it's a pretty safe bet to search in that part of the world. Hope this helps you some. Shirley
