With respect to the PA coal miner: I mentioned before that I was in touch with Peg (Laverty) Billings out in Eureka CA. I followed up by sending her a whole bunch Laverty / Costello / Haggerty data. She passed it along to one of her nephews , Gerald Laverty from Murphy OR whos lineage is: Gerald Clayton Laverty < Henry Joseph Laverty < Henry James Laverty < William (The MIssing) Laverty < George Laverty. He responded to me with a phone call & fax which contained the following direct quotation from his Gm Helen (Dourain) Laverty who was commenting about the trek in the late 19thC of her husband & his brothers from NB Canada to CA. She also mentioned the fact that her husbands father treked to PA, worked as a coal miner & died there: " William and John, who possibly died enroute, and Henry started out as laborers on the Union Pacific Railroad. Their mother nearly died because she thought they would never comeback (and they did'nt) . Brother Ed stayed east (there were 4 brothers from Oak Hill, New Brunswick). Henry's father was a miner and is buried in Pennsylvania". Hence my exploration of the PA coal fields. I reviewed the PA 1860 census today at the NC state archives office, but no luck. I've also ordered the 1870 & 1880 census index from the FHC / LDS. I'm having a small problem identfying which PA counties are "coal counties". We'll see what develops. My other note with respect to the Napa CA Laverty couple with 200 Laverty's in their tree The name Isaac jumped right out at me but I dont see a connection to us. You'd think that with all of those Laverty's, they'd have enough to pass around. Package enroute with all of the above.
